Joshua Community YMCA Opening November 1st 9:00 am

JOSHUA, TX – Almost 9 months to the day after breaking ground on the project, the City of Joshua and the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth will celebrate the opening of the Joshua Community YMCA this Friday November 1st at 9:00 am. The facility is located at 1009 Joshua Station Boulevard in Joshua. The public is invited and tours will be provided following the ribbon cutting. Doors will open for use of the facility at 10:00 am.

The Joshua Community YMCA was built as a result of a partnership agreement between the City of Joshua and the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth in which the City funded the construction of the building and the YMCA will be responsible for operations and maintenance of the facility into the future. The 26,000 square foot facility was completed well ahead of its scheduled opening of January 2014, and the final price tag is within budget. The new community center includes workout facilities, group fitness and meeting rooms, a child care facility, an area for teens, an outdoor play pool and many other amenities.

Mayor Joe Hollarn said, “What an incredible day this is for the City of Joshua and Johnson County! We are thrilled about the opening of this new community center. Through this facility people of all ages throughout Johnson County and the surrounding area will have access to quality health, fitness and general wellness opportunities not to mention summer camp, sports and educational opportunities.”

The Joshua Community YMCA will host several public events in the coming months including a Harvest Festival this Saturday November 2nd from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and a breakfast with Santa Saturday December 7th. The Harvest Festival will include hay rides, games, and tons of family fun. The breakfast with Santa is on the same day as the Joshua Community Tree Lighting Parade that will begin at 6:00 pm December 7th. The parade route starts at Staples Elementary School on South Main Street, then runs north on Main Street to Paula Street where the route ends at the Joshua First United Methodist Church. Following the parade, Santa will be available in the City Park for photos along with holiday crafts for the kids and caroling choirs. The tree lighting parade is hosted by the Joshua Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the city of Joshua.
